About Artist

Impressionism leaves many details to the imagination of the viewer making it an interactive form of creativity. All painting, however, is essentially pushing the mixture around with a brush or a knife until it looks and feels right. The use of palette knives provides great freedom to the artist. Even with experience, results of the palette knife strokes are unexpected and not anticipated. The knife allows the painter to go far beyond one dimensional aspects of a subject.

After 20+ years traveling in the hospitality & tourism industry, I can finally pursue my true passion in my hometown. I have drawn and painted since I can remember. After numerous attempts to apply my "creativity" to the walls of my bedroom, my mother sent me to a local artist and teacher. This was in hopes that my "hobby" could be channeled toward canvas, watercolor paper and pastel paper. But along with my gallery wrapped canvases, I'm still painting walls - just on a larger scale; murals, tromp l'oeil and decorative art.

My work has been copied by many, but my artworks are one-of-a-kind. And while I appreciate the fact that it's a form of flattery, copies are copies and not a T. J. Byrd genuine creation. I paint horses we own and do my own photography for reference. I have sold through galleries in Texas, shows and commissions. My works are being collected by art enthusiasts in Florida, Palm Springs, CA, Raleigh, NC, Louisville, Montgomery, AL, Lafayette, LA, Philadelphia, PA, South Carolina, Chicago, New Jersey, Atlanta, Colorado as well as across Texas.

Currently, I have an exhibit in the Dallas area. The exhibit features fine art pieces from my personal collection - paintings that I haven't been able to part with. Please contact me for more information. I was commissioned to create a large painting for the lobby of the First National Bank of Chillicothe. The canvas is 5ft wide, 4ft high with heavy impasto and palette knife techniques. I hope you have the opportunity to stop and see it "up close and personal".

The Lord has blessed us in many ways. He has given all of us unique and special talents.
